Rejuvenate your senses at Seven Oaks!
Seven Oaks Inn / Bed and Breakfast is situated on the outskirts of High Point, NC on land that was originally part of a large, successful turn-of-the-century tobacco farm. We are “A Little Bit of Country in the City” because even though we are in the city of High Point, the remarkable silence reminds you of a restful country setting. We are called Seven Oaks because there were originally seven magnificently large white and red oaks scattered throughout the land. In the olden days, the oak tree was a place of rest and shade for farmers and travelers. Ms. Pearl Super, a daughter of the original Cole family that owned, inhabited and worked the land, told us she used to play underneath these massive trees when she was a small child. She was in her 90s when she passed in 2017. Jenny and Ron met in 2002 and she quickly fell in love with the trees’ unrefined beauty and grandeur. The land needed a country-style home to complement the land’s heritage and the natural life that inhabits it. In 2007, the Barkers set out to build the main house in which they and their sons could reside. After the boys went on with their lives, the Barkers decided to share their love of the land with others. Seven Oaks Inn / Bed and Breakfast was started in August of 2011. The Barkers named the Seven Oaks’ bedrooms after places they embraced as children — White Lake bedroom was named for a small community near Elizabethtown, NC; Cypress Gardens bedroom reminds them of the long-gone gardens and water ski show in Winter Haven, Florida; Blue Moon bedroom takes them back to many summers spent at the beach; and, Master Oaks Suite honors the live oaks found along the Southern Atlantic coast and the beautiful oak trees found at Seven Oaks. Keeping with tradition that every country home has to have a front porch, the Barkers made sure their home was well equipped! Before homes had air conditioning, the front porch was a favorite place on steamy summer nights for families to cool off and enjoy the evening. Neighbors were sure to stop by to visit if you were sitting on the front porch! Grab a rocking chair, a porch swing, a bench, or a patio chair on the porch to enjoy the warm, soothing sun or evening breeze. You may catch a glimpse of Gordon the Groundhog, the many birds and butterflies that call Seven Oaks’ home, or the deer and fox that graze in the field. Another favorite place of the Barker kids and grandkids is the firepit area. We enjoy making s’mores, having cookouts and picnics, and just visiting by the fire. Many a special event or birthday has been celebrated in our picnic / play area! Our guests also enjoy the Pergola, the firepit, and the Game area. They take pleasure in watching the flames of the fire dance while listening to the soothing music of the chirping crickets and the croaking frogs as the yellow glow of the setting sun reminds us of the passing of another day. If you prefer to sit inside, don’t feel restricted to your room. There is comfortable seating with recliners, a large-screened television, and a library of various books, magazines, and games or puzzles for your enjoyment in the Living Room. Musically inclined? Grab the guitar and pick a few tunes for all to enjoy! Are you searching for a quiet, romantic getaway? Traveling through the area while on your way to farther destinations?
